  9. McLuhan as intellectual can be appraised as a 20th 
  10. century contributor to an ancient hermeneutic 
  11. enterprise, the understanding of understanding. 
  12. Once re-read, his work provides an original 
  13. hypothesis about how we come to understand as 
  14. we do. From the horizon of the 1990s, a central
